My Arizona Tattoo

Posted on

Sometimes life calls for a little bit of spontaneity. And that’s exactly what my life called for this past week.

After a series of heartbreak and bad news over the past month, I was more than relieved that my friends from Chicago decided to come visit for the week. Having them here helped me put my life and my thoughts into perspective.

Even though bad things happen, you still have to pick yourself back up again and march on. It was honestly one of the most fun weeks I have had in an extremely long time, and I even met some new people out here in Arizona. Since I have only been living in Arizona for about 6 months, I have found it difficult to make new friends that enjoy the same things that I do. I had a hard time dealing with moving from the start. Moving to a totally new place where you don’t know anyone is difficult on many different levels, but having my friends come from Chicago gave me more confidence that I knew I could have here. It made me realize that I am the only one holding myself back from my own success, and that if I just put in the effort, good things will come back to me.

In a new state of enlightenment, I took on the week with confidence, and when it was suggested that we should all get tattoos, I jumped at the opportunity.  I wanted something that would represent a new chapter in my life, and in Arizona. It would be a tribute to this new stage of my life, as well as all of the new things that will come from it. I didn’t have to think long before I came up with the idea of getting a cactus flower. I think it perfectly represents Arizona for me and my experiences.

The thing I forgot about tattoos is, they hurt like a bitch. You would think that since I already have three tattoos prior to this, that I would remember just how much it hurts. Somehow though, you always seem to forget. As I was getting my new tattoo, I was thinking to myself, why am I doing this again?? But as soon as I saw the results, I knew it was completely worth it.  I love the way it looks and what it represents for me, and I think the spontaneity of the decision came at just the right time.

This tattoo for me will continue to represent my confidence and new beginnings. Every time that I look at it, it makes me smile, and I know it came at just the right time. Sometimes in life you just have to jump at the chance to do something crazy, and that’s exactly what I did.  I love it.

After seeing your blog go from containing no imagery to having images embedded, I realize that I should think about doing the same whenever I can.

I can totally relate to your story: though I didn’t get a tattoo, I felt a lot of similar feelings when I moved here from New York 4 years ago. I had no friends and no family in what seemed like a desert wasteland. Over time I’ve grown to appreciate the beauty of the desert, and a cactus flower is the perfect representation of that! I’m a different person now than I was when I arrived here; I hope you learn and grow as much as I did in Arizona!

Looks awesome. Good job on being spontaneous and just going out and getting it done!! Only you can make yourself happy so do everything you want to do, never hold back!

Haha I’ve lived here since I was 8 and only after a few painting classes did I really enjoy the beauty of the desert. I’m so happy it resonates with a chilly Chicagoian as well 😉

This is such a beautiful tattoo. I have done 15 hours of work on my left arm, almost finishing up my 3/4 sleeve. It is painful but the results are extremely worth it
